An easy to use, evidence-based audio player delivering therapeutic filtered music to address tinnitus. Our application is the result of five years of collaboration by an international research team of neuroscientists and engineers who've developed the original tailor-made notched music approach for tonal tinnitus on the basis of inhibition-induced brain plasticity.
The music is the therapy. Tinnitus Aid Pro works directly with the music you already have in iTunes, and all audio is filtered in real time. All you have to do is choose your favourite tunes or playlists and listen.
Our signal processing techniques not only produce a very large ‘notch’, but also implement several other new, key audio characteristics borne directly out of our latest published research.
Music is filtered for your specific needs. Settings can be entered manually or via a new, clinically validated multi-stage hearing exam allowing you to determine your own tinnitus frequency.
Weekly listening times are recorded and can be plotted or exported for review. Listening across multiple devices is supported and total listening times are synchronised.
The effectiveness of each module of the application has been proven through carefully performed neuroimaging studies, all of them published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Today we know that tinnitus is a malfunction of the human auditory cortex, and, in most cases, it is triggered by injuries of the sensory organ, the cochlea. Our research has demonstrated that it may be possible to reduce tinnitus loudness by introducing inhibition onto the over-activated neurons representing the tinnitus frequency. Thus, removing exactly these frequencies from a complex auditory stimulus will cause the brain to reorganize around regions coding the tinnitus frequency. In practice, our software performs this filtering in real-time on your own music to deliver the therapeutic sound therapy. For a more detailed explanation, see TMNMT.
Effective notched music therapy relies on first correctly identifying an individual's unique tinnitus frequency. This is quite a bit more involved than a simple hearing test, and not all audiologists have the equipment or training to correctly perform this assessment. Tinnitus Aid Pro users with a previous clinical determination of tinnitus frequency can enter it directly (the 'Manual' filter). But for those who don't have one, we offer a scientifically validated testing procedure through which you can determine your own tinnitus frequency by taking a series of hearing tests, comparing tones until a correct determination can be made. The results are then seamlessly integrated back into the application to provide personalised filtered music.
Tinnitus Aid Pro is the product of years of development by an international group of researchers working on the problem of tinnitus. Precursors of the application and the algorithms it uses have been developed and used directly by scientists in numerous, published studies and a comprehensive clinical trial conducted in 2014. The final, consumer-ready application integrates numerous software tools developed throughout the course of multiple experiments in an easy-to-use form. The final result is an assessment tool and music player delivering personalised, therapeutic music.
